For the last couple weeks leading to Manchester United's opening English Premier League game against Tottenham Hotspurs, there have been debate and discussions, should Wayne Rooney play as a striker and can he be successful.
In the 2009/2010 and 2011/2012 seasons, when played as the main striker he scored 34 goals in each of those seasons, including 26 and 27 in the league respectively. This indicates to me that "The Wazza" can play as a striker and be prolific as well. I don't understand why Manchester United fans don't have confidence in him? Previous seasons he hasn't been as prolific as the aforementioned seasons but that has to do with him having to play in a deeper role to accommodate forwards such as Robin Van Persie, Ruud Van Nistelrooy and Demitar Berbatov. So it's quite obvious that his goal returns would diminished.
We as fans, I'm referring to the true die hards out there, to give Wayne Rooney an opportunity to prove once again that he can play not only as a striker but among the best in that position. You don't score 230 goals for the biggest club in the world if you don't have an eye for the goal. Let "Wazza" fly!
